🎉 EnGage v1.8.6 is here! This release is all about picking up right where you left off. EnGage now remembers which drill files you had open and the set you were on, then quietly restores everything in the background the next time you launch the app — no menus to dig through, no loading screens interrupting you, no re-downloading. Just open EnGage and you're back on the field.
We've also made the Previous/Next set buttons bigger and easier to tap, fixed Notes that were hard to read against dark backgrounds, and tightened up navigation reliability so stray taps between buttons no longer cause surprises.
Under the hood, this release represents 16 files changed with over 1,300 lines added. Let's dive into the details!
Bug Fixes
- GL#253 - Stray Navigation Taps — Taps landing in the gaps between navigation buttons are no longer passed through, preventing unintended selections while moving between sets
- GL#282 - Notes Readability — Notes were difficult to read due to poor contrast against a dark background; they're now clearly legible
New Features
- 💾 GL#284 - Automatic Session Restore — EnGage now saves your open file list and current set, then silently restores your last session in the background when you relaunch, so rehearsal picks up exactly where it stopped
Improvements
Navigation & Controls
- Bigger Set Buttons (GL#283) — The Previous/Next set buttons are larger, making them easier to hit quickly mid-rehearsal
- Load-Aware Drill Buttons — Drill buttons now respond intelligently to drill load state, staying interactive only when appropriate
Reliability
- Background Loading Protection — Session restoration now includes timeout handling, so a stalled background load can never leave the app hanging indefinitely
- Cleaner Load Handoffs — A foreground load always takes priority over a background session restore, and drill parsing coroutines are managed more carefully to avoid conflicts
- Smoother Silent Restores — Loading UI is suppressed during background session restoration for a seamless startup experience
