🎉 EnGage v1.8.5 is here! Building on the foundation of v1.8.4, this release focuses on reliability and clarity at rehearsal. The headline additions include a new Step Size indicator that shows the focused performer's step size in real time, yardline crossing counts now visible in Portrait orientation, double-tap performer selection so you stop losing your selection to an accidental tap, the ability to cancel downloads when you change your mind, and clear error messages when something goes wrong loading a drill.

We've also refined the touch and tap experience for more stable interactions, polished performer position labels so they refresh correctly when switching between Drill Book and Focus modes, introduced auto-fitting text so labels never overflow their boxes again, and made menu tabs close when you tap away, a small but welcome quality-of-life fix.

Under the hood, this release represents 28 files changed with nearly 4,600 lines added. Let's dive into the details!

Bug Fixes

Drill Loading Errors: Drill load failures (file read or JSON parsing) are now caught and surfaced to the user with an on-screen message instead of failing silently
Music Download Hangs: Added a timeout for music downloads so the app no longer waits indefinitely if a download stalls; errors are logged for diagnosis

New Features

🏃 Step Size Indicator: A new real-time Step Size label shows the focused performer's step size (steps per 5 yards), updating live as the drill plays back
📏 Yardline Crossing Counts in Portrait: The next yardline (or hash) crossing count is now displayed in Portrait/Focus Mode, so you can see what count the focused performer crosses each line on the phone layout
👆👆 Double-Tap PerformerSelection: Selecting a performer now requires a double-tap instead of a single tap, so an accidental tap no longer switches your selection mid-rehearsal
⏹️ Download Cancellation: Drill and music downloads can now be cancelled mid-flight with a Cancel button, with loading status updates shown on screen

Load Error Notifications: New OnLoadError event in Manager notifies subscribers when loading fails, with FileChoice displaying the message to the user
Download Cancellation: Downloads now support CancellationToken, enabling clean cancellation from the UI
Music Download Timeout: Timeout logic prevents indefinite waiting and logs errors if a download exceeds the allowed duration

UI/UX

Auto-Fitting Text: New AutoFitFontSize component dynamically resizes UI text to fit its container, eliminating label overflow
Position Label Refresh: Performer position labels now refresh correctly when switching between Drill Book Mode and Focus Mode
Long-Form Monikers in Drill Book: Drill Book Mode now uses long-form performer monikers for clearer identification
Menu Tab Click-Outside Closer: Menu tabs now close when you tap outside them, for a more natural interaction
Touch Input Stability: Touch input processing now uses a more stable finger identity across taps, reducing mis-taps on UI elements
